Two people died and nearly a dozen were injured when a building exploded in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WSMV) – WAVE News has received a statement from Givaudan Sense Color confirming that two employees were killed in the explosion that destroyed their building in the Clifton neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon.

“Earlier today there was an explosion at the Sense Color factory in Louisville, Kentucky. Today, we are deeply saddened to share the news that two of our teammates lost their lives in this accident. Many other people were injured as a result. We mourn with the families, friends and loved ones of those who lost their lives and were injured during this difficult time.

City leaders stated there is no ongoing threat to the immediate area or surrounding community. Damage has been reported to some homes and buildings near the factory and we are in contact with first responders who are providing support to those affected.

We are in the early stages of investigating the cause of this incident and are cooperating with first responders and support organizations. We appreciate their heroic response and extend our thanks to those in the community who showed their support throughout the day.

Our priority right now is our teammates, the families of those we lost and those injured in this accident. “We are in contact with them and are committed to supporting them in the coming days and weeks.”

Emergency response in Louisville reported that 12 employees at Givaudan Sense Color were hospitalized following an explosion. Louisville Fire Department crews rescued two of these employees.

Chief Health Officer Dr. Two victims remain in critical condition at the University of Louisville Hospital, according to Jason Smith. He said five other people were also in hospital and were in stable condition. It is not yet known whether the two reported deaths involved the twelve people hospitalized or the two additional victims.

The explosion occurred at around 3 pm on Tuesday, November 12. Givaudan Sense Color is known as the former DDW factory located at 1901 Payne Street.
