Woman pleads guilty to stealing charity donations from student flats in Nottingham

‘He helped with whatever he could’

Charity donations were stolen from a student house in Nottingham in mid-July earlier this year. The criminal in question has now pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and five counts of shoplifting.

Burton entered the same student residence on Ilkeston Road, Radford, twice within a week, in the early hours of July 10 and July 17, 2024, stealing items from common areas.

Burton on his first break-in rooted walked around a charity donation box and bought a coat. He returned days later, removed the smart TV from the wall and walked out of the building in his hand.

Later on July 17, Burton continued his spree, stealing perfume from a store in Nottingham’s Victoria Center at around 3.45pm. This was his fifth burglary offense in June and July.

PC Emma Jordan of Nottinghamshire Police in question: “We are really pleased to see Burton now owns up to his persistent theft and is being punished for his actions. “His decision to repeatedly enter a property and help himself, including the contents of a charity box located there, was completely immoral.”

Burton had previously targeted the same store in Victoria Center on June 2 and June 7, wearing sunglasses each time. She also stole a £1,400 handbag from a shop in Lister Gate on July 9 and shoplifted again in Netherfield on July 13. Nottinghamshire Police linked Burton to these incidents after reviewing CCTV footage.

“These two burglaries occurred amid a series of shopliftings involving Burton, where Burton helped himself with whatever he could get his hands on,” PC Jordan said. added. “Needless to say, this was not and will never be acceptable behavior, which is why he was rightfully put behind bars.”

Burton has now been sentenced to 20 months in prison.
