Macomb County man facing 6 child sex-related charges

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Michigan. – A Macomb County man is facing six felony charges related to possession of child sexual content.

Joshua Mathes, 43, was arrested around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2024, outside his home in Chesterfield Township.

Members of the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Enforcement Team said they took several laptops, a cell phone and a tablet from Mathes’ home, as well as a CPU hard drive and a small external hard drive.

Authorities believe Mathes is in possession of child sexual abuse material. He is also accused of using various websites containing this content and visiting message boards used by child predators.

Mathes is charged with three counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material and three counts of using a computer to commit a crime.

Each of these charges is a 10-year felony.

Mathes was arraigned Friday in 42nd District Court in New Baltimore. Bond was set at $10,000 cash/surety. If released, he cannot access the internet or communicate with anyone under the age of 18.
