Two men arrested following car crash in Eglington

Police have arrested two men following a car crash in Eglington in the early hours of Saturday, October 26.

Inspector McDonald said: “At around 12.15pm we received a report that a red Volkswagen Polo had been driven into a man, the man managed to swerve out of the way before crashing into a wall in the High Street area. “A short time later, the car then collided with a second man.

“Officers attended the scene and found the 19-year-old suspect in the passenger seat of another car in the Greysteel area. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of a number of offenses including failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury and driving with excess alcohol in the breath.

“The driver of the second car, a 51-year-old man, was also arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol. Both men have been released on police bail pending further investigation.

“The teenage man who was hit by a car was taken to hospital and his injuries are still being treated.

“We would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident, saw anything suspicious in the area or has dashcam footage to call 101 and give police reference 1574 25/10/24.”
