On the bench on Tuesday reserved orders While hearing her case, Justice Anand Venkatesh had observed that it was unnecessary for Kasturi to make such controversial statements.

Justice Venkatesh said that Telugu speaking people have been living in Tamil Nadu since the time of Madras presidency and also noted that they are largely a part of this land.

During the bail hearing, Kasturi’s legal counsel had stated that he had apologized for his remarks and that he had intended to show the hypocrisy of the ruling party DMK.

Based on a complaint filed by a Telugu association, Madurai police registered a case against the actor.

Following this, Kasturi reportedly went to hide even while applying for bail.

The actor sparked controversy in Tamil Nadu by making derogatory remarks against the Telugu-speaking community in the state. He made these remarks on November 3 at an event called for “legal protection of Brahmins”.

Kasturi had said that the Telugu-speaking people initially came from outside Tamil Nadu “as assistants of the king’s consort” but later, according to him, “adopted the Tamil identity” while engaging in separatist politics.

While talking to India Today, he clarified: Didn’t mean to demean Telugu speaking people. Defending his comments, he said, “(In the protest) I exposed the hypocrisy and double standards of the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam).”
