An event was held at Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Sciences on Saturday, involving other leading higher education institutions in Coimbatore.

The summit on ‘Empowering Women, Enriching Society’, organized by EBG Foundation under the chairmanship of Anna University’s leading academician and former vice-chancellor E. Balagurusamy, witnessed distinguished personalities who exposed the factors hindering the economic, political, social, educational and social development of women. Former Chief Justice of India and former Governor of Kerala, Justice P. The former Chief Justice said gender equality was a key component of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, emphasizing the importance of open dialogues to change stereotypes.

Emphasizing the rectification of inherited dynamics in domestic relations as the starting point for women’s emancipation, B.Thiagarajan, Registrar, IIT Palakkad, sought to warn the student community not to accept ill-conceived notions of women’s subordination entrenched in the narratives of some women. from movie scripts.

P. Alli Rani, Director of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management, said that women need to be assertive about their rights and rewrite the globally prevalent paradigm that places them in a subordinate position.

This year’s EBG Socio-Innovation Award was awarded to Arunachalam Muruganantham, known as ‘India’s Pad Man’, for revolutionizing low-cost sanitary pads.

The award was presented by V. Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, in the presence of R. Sundar, Joint Managing Trustee of SNR Sons Charitable Trust, at the graduation session.
