Dembare suspends Shandirwa without salary and benefits

Fading and troubled Harare outfit Dynamos Football Club has suspended midfielder Tanaka Shandirwa, accusing him of “disrespecting and disdaining the club’s leadership”. The punishment comes as the club’s players enter the third day of their strike, demanding extraordinary win bonuses and signing fees ahead of Sunday’s Chibuku Super Cup semi-final against Manica Diamonds.

Shandirwa was informed of his suspension at Alex Sports Club this morning via a letter sent by one of the club’s security personnel. The suspension letter, written by General Secretary Webster Marechera, stated: “In accordance with the recommendations made by the Acting Head Coach on 24 October 2024, Dynamos Football Club hereby confirms your suspension without pay and benefits with immediate effect. Your behavior has caused your suspension. It damaged the club’s reputation.”

The letter referred to Shandirwa’s alleged breach of Section 115 of the National Employment Code of Conduct, which outlines expectations for employee conduct. In particular, reference was made to Section 4(a), which deals with conduct inconsistent with the performance of contractual obligations.

The accusations against Shandirwa reportedly stem from rising tensions since the club’s participation in the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup. The situation reached boiling point during a meeting on October 24, in which the midfielder openly expressed his displeasure towards the club management.

As the players’ strike continues, the club faces increasing pressure to resolve the issue and ensure the team prepares for a crucial match against Manica Diamonds. Fans and analysts are closely watching how Dynamos will overcome this internal crisis as they aim to maintain their competitive edge in the tournament.
