Vodafone-Idea reduces data limit in emergency plan. The telecom service provider has made changes to its Rs 23 prepaid data plan, which is frequently used by customers who need emergency data. It earlier offered 1.2GB of data per day, but the plan has now been reduced to just 1GB.

While the cost of the plan remains the same, users will now get 200MB less data than usual. This affordable data package, introduced in November last year (2023), remained unchanged even when mobile tariffs increased in July.

Due to financing difficulties, the company has not yet been able to launch 5G services and has seen a gradual decline in user numbers.

Alternative Options from Jio and Airtel

For users who need additional data, Vodafone-Idea (Vi) will offer an alternative plan worth Rs 26 that will provide 1.5GB data for a day. Meanwhile, rival telecom companies Jio and Airtel have also started offering affordable data packages.

Both the recharge plans will provide 1-hour validity and offer 1GB high-speed data for 11 rupees.

These smaller plans are designed for customers with high data consumption needs and offer flexible, short-term options.

Competitive environment in the prepaid market

Vi’s recent data reduction reflects the shift in prepaid data bundles in the market. With Jio recently launching its Rs 11 plan on November 3 (2024), competition for affordable, flexible data options is intensifying, especially for high data usage customers looking for short-term solutions.
