Winnipeg juvenile counselor accused of sexually assaulting incarcerated teenager: police

A Winnipeg man is facing charges after a teenager reported he was sexually assaulted by a juvenile counselor while incarcerated.

Winnipeg police said the teen reported the sexual assault in November 2023.

Investigators say the teen was incarcerated in a holding facility in Manitoba between 2022 and 2023.

Police said the teen formed a relationship with a juvenile counselor while in custody. During this time, he allegedly gave her extra canteen supplies and sexually assaulted her in return.

A 51-year-old Winnipeg man was charged Tuesday with sexual assault, sexual exploitation and soliciting sexual services from a person under 18.

He was released with conditions prohibiting access by anyone under the age of 18 under the Criminal Code.

None of the charges have been tested in court.
