Gas station clerk robbed at gunpoint now accused of opening fire on suspects

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX/Gray News) – A gas station clerk is facing charges after shooting at two teenagers involved in a robbery at the convenience store, police in Vermont said.

Domonic Ali-Koarti, 34, was behind the counter at the Shell gas station on Williston Road last week when two teenagers robbed the store at gunpoint, South Burlington police said.

Investigators said Ali-Koarti told officers he handed the money to the suspects and followed them outside. He then saw two gunshots and believed the robbers were shooting at him, so he pulled out his gun and fired several shots at them.

The young people told the police that they tried to escape from the scene.

Authorities said Ali-Koarti faces aggravated assault charges in connection with the incident.

The young suspects were sent to the courthouse for assault and theft.
