Robbed emergency stop officer now accused of assaulting suspects

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Police say an officer who was robbed in a convenience store robbery is now charged with assaulting the suspects.

Investigators say 34-year-old Domonic Ali-Koarti was behind the counter at the Shell Station on Williston Road in South Burlington last week when two teenagers robbed the store at gunpoint.

South Burlington police said Ali-Koarti told them he followed the suspects outside after handing over the money. He said he saw two gunshots and believed the robbers were shooting at him, so he pulled out his personal gun and fired several shots at them.

The teenagers told police they were just trying to escape.

Ali-Koarti now faces aggravated assault charges.

The young suspects were sent to the courthouse for assault and theft.
