Santa Rosa police will conduct DUI and license checkpoint this weekend

Santa Rosa police will be screening drivers at the city’s drunken driving and driver’s license checkpoint this weekend.

Santa Rosa police will be screening drivers at the city’s drunken driving and driver’s license checkpoint this weekend.

Police will operate the checkpoint from 6 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location where driving-related accidents have occurred before, Sgt. Josh Medeiros said: newsletter.

The purpose of the checkpoint is to remove drivers suspected of DUI due to alcohol, marijuana or drugs from the road. Officers may also check a driver’s license for possible violations.

Those charged with first-time DUI may have their licenses suspended and face an average fine of $13,500, Medeiros said.

The checkpoint received funding from a California Office of Traffic Safety grant through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
