Man convicted of two rapes in South Korea was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the third rape

SEOUL: A man convicted of rape in his 20s and again in his 30s in South Korea was sentenced to prison for another rape at the age of 45.

On November 13, the Seoul High Court upheld the previous court decision that sentenced the defendant surnamed Kim to 15 years in prison. He also ordered her to wear an electronic monitoring anklet for 20 years after her release.

“The first decision seems neither too heavy nor too light. The court decision said, “It is proportional to the crime.”

Kim was convicted on January 1 of following a complete stranger to her home in Songpa-gu, south of Seoul, and raping her. He asked the court to postpone his sentence, saying he wanted to try for reconciliation. He met with the victim but the request was denied.

Kim has been behind bars before for sexual crimes. In 2006, he was sentenced to seven years in prison for rape. He was later found guilty again in 2016 of breaking into a woman’s home and raping her, resulting in eight years in prison.

This latest crime occurred just five months after he was released from prison after a 2016 rape. She was wearing an electronic anklet at the time of the sexual assault.
