Electricity Company Offers Free Meter Upgrade as Another Company Chooses to Leave National Grid

Following enforcement threats from the Federal Competition Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has refused to charge customers for the ongoing STS-2 meter upgrade, saying the program is free to its customers.

This development comes after the FCCPC warned the company on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, to cease all activities related to the replacement of Unistar meters.

EKEDC sets deadline for meter upgrade

The statement asked the two DisCos, EKEDC and Ikeja Electric (IE), to cease all activities related to the planned replacement of Unistar meters.

The Commission explained that the order remained in force and any attempt by EKEDC and IE to ignore it would result in severe penalties.

Vanguard reported that the agency announced that the change was invalidated by the FCCPC and NERC, and that there was no indication that the affected DisCos violated its orders.

KEDCO takes action to protect critical customers
