Osun police parade suspects for murder, illegal firearm possession and armed robbery

The Osun State Police Command has arrested one Adeyemi Adijat and four other men for the alleged murder of Adewale Temitope.

The Police Command made this known during the suspect parade in Osogbo on Thursday.

Adeyemi Temitope was beaten to death on Wednesday, November 6, when he and an accomplice tried to steal a bottle of Action Bitter gin, a pack of Benson and Hedges cigarettes and three bottles of Maltina Maltina, according to a statement made available to DAILY POST. 2024, around 22:45.

According to command spokesperson Opalola Yemisi, the arrested suspects, all men, include 58-year-old Adeyemi Adijat, 23-year-old Ogunsola Roqeeb, 36-year-old Akeem Akintola and 38-year-old Lamidi. Abass and 22-year-old Ibrahim Quadri.

The exhibits seized from the suspects are as follows: a bottle of Action Bitter gin, a pack of Benson and Hedges cigarettes, three bottles of Maltina and weeds suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.

The statement reads: “On 11.06.2024 at about 22:45 hours, one Ogunsola Roqeeb ‘m’ and Adewale Temitope ‘m’ went to Adeyemi Adijat ‘f’ shop at Asumon junction Ede in the late hours now and stole a bottle Action Bitter gin, a pack of Benson cigarettes and three bottles of Maltina.

“Adeyemi Adijat raised the alarm and also summoned some hoodlums in the District; The hoodlums showed up in large numbers and beat Adewale Temitope to death.

“Meanwhile, the five suspects were arrested by men of the special Anti-Cultism Unit, Osun, for further investigation. “The suspects will be referred to the courthouse after their interrogations are completed.”

Also included in the parade was 32-year-old Saheed Bakare aka Ewe, who has been booked by the command for alleged conspiracy, armed robbery, murder, membership of an unlawful society and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.

Opalola said: “As a sequel to the arrest and trial of the notorious cult leader Owoeye Olabode aka “Bode Itaapa”, most members of the fraternity moved from Iwara to Igangan where they terrorized the residents of that area.

“Consequently, at approximately 23:30 on 11/11/2024, after receiving credible intelligence, officers of the Anti-Kidnapping team swung into action and swept the entire community where the suspect Bakare Saheed ‘m’ was arrested while illegally slaughtering. “One of the victims stated that ‘Ewe’ came to his farm along with other cultists armed with dangerous weapons, brutally beat him, threatened to shoot him and ordered him to leave his farm. For his safety, he had no choice but to leave the farm or be killed.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to killing the late Tafa, a member of Eiye Brotherhood, in 2020 on the instructions of Bode Owoeye aka “Bode Itaapa”. He admitted that Bode Owoeye gave him the barreled gun he used to carry out the action and that he took the gun from him after the operation.

“He stated that he was initiated into Aye in 2014 by Solo Iwara, Bode Itaapa, Bisi Iwara and Allen J. (now late).

“He also claimed that all his weapons were in the possession of an Akanni who was still at large.”

Oladele Sunday, alias Okoro, 26, was also arrested for unlawful membership in society and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.

He was holding two locally produced single-barreled pistols.

The statement said, “The determination of the Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Umar, to cleanse Osun State from the activities of cultists since the day he assumed command is a ‘No retreat, no surrender’ struggle. “On further investigation, it was revealed that the said Oladele Sunday ‘m’ aka Okoro belongs to the cult gang led by Rasheed aka ‘Oko-Ilu’ who had previously terrorized Ede town and its surroundings.

“After the arrest and trial of Rasheed aka “Oko-Ilu”, Okoro who fled Ede town later moved to Ilesha and reunited with another deadly Eiye cult group led by Awe Mayowa aka “Bishop Apase”.

Opalola said that intelligence is ongoing to arrest some suspects for trial, adding that a lawsuit will be filed against them after the investigation is completed.
