Yanga appoint German coach Sead Ramovic to replace Miguel Gamondi

Dar es Salaam. Young Africans (Yanga) have appointed German coach Sead Ramovic as their new head coach, replacing Argentinian Miguel Gamondi, who was sacked after disappointing results in the NBC Premier League.

The decision to part ways with Gamondi came just hours before Ramovic’s appointment was announced.

Gamondi, who joined the club in 2023, has been under intense scrutiny following a string of lackluster performances, including two consecutive defeats, that have left the team’s prospects uncertain.

With high expectations regarding Yanga’s ambitions in both domestic and continental competitions, the club management felt a change was necessary to turn things around.

Ramovic, who started the 2024-25 season in the South African team TS Galaxy, had a difficult period at the club and could not meet expectations.

However, his appointment to Yanga is seen as a fresh start for the club as it looks to regain competitiveness. The 45-year-old coach, who previously coached TS Galaxy for almost three years, is now tasked with the task of regaining the team’s form and leading them to success.

Ramovic quietly arrived in Dar es Salaam two nights ago and held talks with Yanga officials before being taken to a hotel in the city to finalize his contract.

The club confirmed his arrival via social media, adding that Ramovic’s assistant would also join the team shortly, replacing Moussa Ndaw, who was sacked along with Gamondi.

Ramovic, a former goalkeeper for German Bundesliga clubs VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach, brings his European experience to Yanga, although he has not yet achieved significant success in his coaching career in Africa.

Known for favoring a 4-2-3-1 formation, Ramovic’s style aligns with the tactical setup used by Yanga under Gamondi and this will provide some continuity as the team adapts to new leadership.

Ramovic’s coaching career was defined by his long tenure at TS Galaxy, where he spent almost three years starting in October 2021. However, his stint in South Africa was not without its challenges as the club failed to deliver the results expected of them.

The focus now shifts to Yanga’s future under Ramovic. The club is at a crossroads with high hopes of achieving both domestic glory in the Tanzania Premier League and success in continental competitions such as the CAF Champions League.

Yanga, one of East Africa’s most successful football clubs, will rely on Ramovic’s experience and tactical knowledge in European football to steady the ship and take the team to the trophies.

The pressure on the fans is increasing. Ramovic needs to adapt quickly to the challenges of African football and prove that he is capable of meeting the high expectations placed on him.

His appointment comes at a crucial time and with the club’s season still hanging in the balance, all eyes will be on Yanga after a turbulent start to the season.
