Nanaimo nurse suspended for 7 days for misconduct: BCCNM

A nurse in Nanaimo has been issued a seven-day restraining order for unauthorized access to patient records.

BC College of Nurses and Midwives published a summary The consent agreement the inquiry committee signed with Jordan Gerrard earlier this week.

Gerrard’s misconduct occurred between February and April 2023, according to the university.

“Nurses are permitted to access personal and health information only for purposes consistent with their professional responsibilities and are not permitted to access the health records of patients outside their care,” the summary states. The statement is included.

The report does not detail Gerrard’s case, saying only that the nurse voluntarily agreed to have her registration suspended for seven days and be reprimanded as disciplinary action for the misconduct.

The summary concludes: “The inquiry committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.”
