BSF brings back body of missing youth from Sherpur

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has returned the body of Bangladeshi youth Ershadul Haque, who was missing for more than 40 days, at the Nakugaon border under Sherpur’s Nalitabari upazila.

Nalitabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Sanowar Hossain said the body was handed over on Friday afternoon (November 15) in the presence of BSF and Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) personnel and police.

It was reported that Ershadul, son of Mojibur Rahman from Apurakhata village in Kurigram’s Ulipur upazila, crossed into India illegally on October 5.

According to family and local sources, he told his family that he was going to the market but crossed the Ulipur border instead. Tragically, Ershadul died of electrocution after entering India.

His disappearance prompted the family to lodge a public diary at Ulipur Police Station. They identified him weeks later through a photo of his body circulating on social media. After the family contacted the Indian High Commission, legal formalities were completed and arrangements were made for the return of his body.

The OC added that additional legal procedures were followed before the body was officially handed over to the family for burial.
