Authorities are searching for 48-year-old Olalekan Abimbola Olawusi, who is accused of first-degree murder and two counts of causing serious bodily harm to a child in April 2017, the Police Service said in a statement. expression.

Olawusi also used the alias Olekun Olawusi and was described as being 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 185 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, authorities said.

Olawusi was arrested on April 20, 2017, after Providence police and firefighters found his young son bleeding from his mouth and nose at a home, authorities said. According to authorities, the child was hospitalized with a heart attack and had to be resuscitated to regain a pulse.

“An inspection at the hospital found 18 injuries in various stages of recovery, indicating a long-term trend of abuse,” the Marshal’s Office said. “These injuries included a skull fracture, subdural hematoma, severe brain damage and fractures to the child’s ribs, collarbones, legs and arms. “He was put on life support but died six months later.”

Olawusi was arrested and charged 17 days after the baby was found. He was released the same day and escaped, authorities said.

The murder charge was added after the baby’s death on Oct. 31 of that year, authorities said.

Prosecutors and police called on the Marshals Service to find Olawusi in November 2017, and an investigation revealed that he used his Nigerian passport to board a flight out of the country on June 20, 2017, via John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. Officials said:

Authorities believe he “may be receiving help from family members in Nigeria and may be a danger to other children,” the Marshal’s Office said.

“Mr. Police Department Director Ronald L. Davis said in a statement that Olawusi was wanted for the abuse and murder of an innocent child and fled the country to escape justice.

“We have placed Mr. Olawusi on our 15 Most Wanted list due to the heinous crimes he has committed and the threat he continues to pose to the public,” Davis added. “USMS will exhaust all necessary resources to bring him to justice on behalf of his family and the community.”
