Ratan Tata’s admiration aviation It wasn’t a secret. According to reports, his interest began while he was at Cornell University in the 1960s. While studying, he managed to get his pilot’s license and flew small planes regularly. Flying requires experience and expertise, which Tata has. However, technical problems can happen to anyone. In 2009, Ratan Tata had to make an emergency landing because the engine of his single-engine Tri-Pacer failed. Tata successfully demonstrated his skills and was able to land safely. He was flying with his bandmates at the time. Even as he grew old and became overwhelmed by the responsibilities of the company, he never gave up his passion and was often seen piloting the company jet.

Mathew recalls another incident and says, “There are many stories revolving around his daring flying skills….. He would take to the skies, shut down the engine and scare his passengers.” Not everyone knew this side of Ratan Tata. The pinnacle of his long flight experience was when he co-piloted an airplane.
