Theft suspect injured after jumping from US-101 overpass: police

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Police Department arrested a burglary suspect who jumped from a highway overpass last week, police said. The man allegedly robbed a liquor store early that morning.

Police first responded to a liquor store in the 700 block of 22nd Street at 2:12 a.m. on Nov. 7 for a burglary in progress. Many suspects forced their way into the store and took the items and money.

The suspects left the scene in many vehicles. Police attempted to stop a car traveling north on US-101, but the car sped away and officers did not pursue it.

SFPD said the car was heading toward the highway’s 7th Street exit. Police approached the vehicle and saw the suspect jump from the overpass and land 40 feet below at 15th and Vermont streets.

It was learned that the man suffered life-threatening injuries. He was detained and taken to hospital. Police also seized a gun.

The police investigation concluded that the suspect was involved in two other burglaries that occurred the same night in the Ingleside and Mission neighborhoods.

The police could not identify the suspect because the investigation was ongoing. SFPD continues to work to capture other suspects involved in the theft.
