Lawyer says case against Lorain County prosecutor dismissed

ELYRIA, Ohio (WOIO) – Charges have been dropped against Lorain County Prosecutor J.D. Tomlinson and Chief of Staff James Burge.

Tomlinson’s attorney, Michael J. Camera, said he and Tomlinson appeared in Elyria Municipal Court for a preliminary hearing Friday morning, but the prosecutor was unable to move forward because a witness did not appear.

This resulted in the judge dismissing Tomlinson and Burges’ case, according to Camera. “There was no crime,” he told Camera 19 News.

Tomlinson was charged with intimidation, tampering with evidence and attempted bribery.

He lost his re-election bid earlier this month.

Tomlinson made the following statement:

“Consistent with the statements I made when I was first falsely accused on October 1, this was an incompetent and feeble attempt by Sheriff Stammitti, along with my predecessor Dennis Will and my opponent Tony Cillo, to falsely accuse two innocent people 30 days before the election. “And it ended exactly as I predicted…in failure. Unfortunately, they managed to interfere with the election.”
