Marine ‘Tots for Tots’ Foundation announces suspension of Allen County program, responds on future of programs in northeast Indiana

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – On Friday, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve explained why its ‘Toys for Babies’ program was suspended in Allen County this year while providing an answer about the future of the programs in northeast Indiana.

According to the organization, local ‘Toys for Kids’ campaigns are either run by U.S. Marine Corps Reserve units or coordinated by community volunteers and organizations.

Of the 873 local campaigns, 133 are conducted by U.S. Marine Corps Reserve units. The other 740 are coordinated by community volunteers or organizations.

The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve says Allen County is one of 740 local ‘Toys for Kids’ campaigns coordinated by community volunteers and organizations.

Allen County had a volunteer who coordinated the county’s local campaign from 2012 to 2023, according to the organization.

This year, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve says no volunteers or organizations are coordinating the local campaign in Allen County. As a result, the program was suspended.

Allen County joins Noble, DeKalb, Huntington, Wells, Adams and Jay counties as the counties without a local ‘Toys for Babies’ campaign this year.

According to the organization, a volunteer or organization must coordinate the campaign to sustain the program in locations where local campaigns are not conducted by U.S. Marine Corps Reserve units.
