Man who broke into church arrested

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man was arrested and charged after entering a church, according to an arrest affidavit.

Greg Black, 54, faces multiple charges, including burglary, after breaking into a church on Wilhagen Road.

After the victim called, officers responded to the area and said they could see a man inside the church and that no one should be on the property, the affidavit said.

When officers arrived, they found the doors locked and no signs of forced entry. Police said they then saw Black go down the stairs inside the church and immediately run back up when he noticed the officers.

Officers gave Black a verbal command to exit the building.

The victim then arrived at the scene and unlocked the side door for officers.

When they arrived at the back of the building, police found a large hole punched in the exterior wall. The hole went through metal siding and drywall, allowing Black people access to the church, the affidavit said.

The victim told police the hole wasn’t there before.

K-9 then arrived at the scene and began searching for the suspect. He was found hiding in a black closet.

The affidavit said the K-9 tried to bite Black, but Black pushed a backpack into the K-9’s face. But the K-9 managed to catch him.

Officers searched Black and his backpack and found bolt cutters and a small bag containing white powder. The victim’s laptop and camera were found in the backpack, as well as food from the church.

A small glass “crack” pipe was also found on Black.

After his arrest, Black was hospitalized for treatment for a K-9 bite, the affidavit said.

Black was released from the hospital and booked into the Davidson County Jail on charges of possession of burglary tools, burglary, theft of property more than $1,000, less than $2,500, vandalism more than $2,500, less than $10,000, possession of controlled currency. drug and evading arrest.
