Etowah County woman faces shoplifting charges while working as a caregiver

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – – The Etowah County sheriff calls this a betrayal of trust. A female caregiver is accused of stealing credit card information from a family to make online purchases.

Etowah County Sheriff Jonathon Horton said the betrayal of trust in this case is alarming and heartbreaking. Brittani Autwell, 27, of Attalla, was charged with fraudulent credit card use, identity theft and theft of property.

Sheriff Horton said Autwell was hired by the victims to care for their autistic grandchild. Horton said victims noticed and reported irregularities in their financial statements.

Investigators used digital evidence and financial records to make the arrest. Autwell is currently released on a $9,000 property bond.
