Taylen Green was the star of the show. The Boise State transfer had as strong a performance as you can muster in the first half, finishing Saturday’s contest with 6 total goals and 5 passing yards. Mississippi State made a late push when the Razorbacks defense tired, but the final score doesn’t do it justice; The Razorbacks offense was dominant on Saturday.

Arkansas now looks ahead to Week 10 against Ole Miss, which struggled in a win over Oklahoma this afternoon. Here are 3 takeaways from Arkansas’ offensive clinic against Mississippi State.

Taylen Green was an electric factory against the poor MSU defense

Taylen Green was the best player on the field Saturday, and it wasn’t even close. The Arkansas quarterback threw a total of 6 touchdowns, 5 passing and 1 rushing, and didn’t seem to break a sweat.

Green set the tone for the day with his lone goal. Aided by some excellent blocking near the sideline, he nearly knocked this defender off his cleats before entering the 6.

Green had a tendency to be a bit erratic at Boise State, and that trait carried over to the SEC in certain respects. However, he looked much calmer in this match in particular. We showed this on the field on Saturday.

Arkansas had a great day offensively, perhaps helped by the fact that Mississippi State ranks 122nd in the nation in total defense so far this season. The Razorbacks had just over 650 yards of offense on the day with a balanced attack.

There was one area where Arkansas struggled intensely: 3rd place. Sam Pittman’s club went 0-6 in these crucial situations, but it is also worth noting that they were 2-2 in the 4th defeat.

Now, the fact that Arkansas only attempted 6 3rd down attempts all day speaks to this. The Razorbacks were moving the ball so effectively that they moved the chains early on 1st or 2nd down on most occasions.
