Micheal Nolan to appeal 12-day cross-country ban for taking wrong route against Tommie Beau

Michael Nolan to appeal 12-day suspension for going the wrong way about favorite Tommie Beau At the Glenfarclas Cross Country race at Cheltenham on Friday.

The jockey said he intends to review the decision of the stewards, who felt he chose the wrong route after a three-point breakout while leading the shot at 100-30.

The incident occurred when Tommie Beau crossed the track as runners approached the crossing leading to the main road. He was quickly brought to his feet after the incident, with Sweet David going on to win for France-based trainer Gabriel Leenders.

Nolan did not comment ahead of the appeal but Tommie Beau’s trainer Seamus Mullins sympathized with the jockey.

He said: “It’s just one of those things that happens in racing, especially in this type of racing. When you take a horse into cross-country racing, you have to take into account that things like this can happen. It’s part of what’s done. Of course, the big thing is, the horse after the race and the rider is good.

“I’m not sure if we can win the race because the winner was pretty impressive. He (Tommie Beau) stayed well and jumped well, so at least we know we can see these races again. Simon (Prout, owner) and I don’t have any great ambitions to get back into Cheltenham Festival racing “But there are options in France that we can consider.”

Speaking to ITV Racing after the race, Nolan described the situation as “very unfortunate” and added: “He leaned to the left, so that’s just one of those things. I had very little time to react when he went left with me.” Maybe I pushed him too close to the inside, but in these races you try to pass every corner. This is disappointing.”
