Local woman sentenced to seven years in prison for allegedly threatening public official over phone

A local woman was sentenced to seven years in prison on Friday for allegedly threatening a public official via cell phone.

On October 10, Alicia Arredondo was found guilty of retaliation by a Bexar County jury, according to the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.

Today, the same jury sentenced Arredondo to seven years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

According to official documents, Arredondo made cellphone threats to a public official in retaliation for his role in the prosecution of his son, who is currently in custody at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The threats were recorded in voicemails from Arredondo on November 2, 2022. “We’re after you and your family, so look both ways,” he said in the voicemail.

“We must protect our employees who work tirelessly to uphold the law and keep the community safe,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said in a press release. There will be no tolerance for the prosecution or other public officials.

175th District Court Judge Torres-Stahl presided over the hearing. The Public Integrity and Cybercrime Office conducted the investigation.
