SC suspends judicial activities to honor former chief justice Fazlul Karim

Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed suspended the judicial functions of the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court for tomorrow in honor of former chief justice Muhammad Fazlul Karim, who passed away earlier today at the age of 81.

According to a notice issued by the Supreme Court administration, cases listed for today’s case list for the Appellate Division will be heard on November 24, and cases listed for the Supreme Court Chamber will be heard on Monday.

However, the administrative and other activities of the Supreme Court will continue as normal today.

Justice Fazlul Karim passed away at 4.43 am while receiving treatment at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Dhaka.

He leaves behind his wife, three daughters, two sons and many fans.

The funeral prayers were held this afternoon at the Supreme Court Inner Lawn in the presence of Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, judges of the Appellate and High Court Divisions, former chief justices, Solicitor General Md Asaduzzaman and members of the Supreme Court Bar Association. Association.

Chief Justice Refaat Ahmed and Legal Counsel Asif Nazrul expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Justice Fazlul Karim. They expressed their condolences to his grieving family and wished his soul eternal peace.

Justice Muhammad Fazlul Karim had a distinguished legal career. After completing his Bachelor of Laws degree from Dhaka University in 1964 and completing his Bar studies in 1969, he started practicing as a lawyer in Chattogram District Court in 1965.

He was later registered with the Dhaka High Court in 1970 and the Appellate Division in 1979.

He was elevated to the Supreme Court Division as a judge on 1 November 1992, and to the Appellate Division on 15 May 2001.

Throughout his career, he held prominent roles in the legal community, including as secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association in 1982 and as a member of the Bangladesh Bar Council in 1992.
