Sterling man arrested on welfare fraud charges

A Sterling resident was arrested Nov. 10 on multiple felonies related to a 2019 welfare fraud investigation.

James R. Williams Jr. was taken into custody by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and charged with grand larceny, welfare fraud, misuse of food stamps and presenting a false document.

Sheriff Brian Schenck reported Williams allegedly defrauded the Cayuga County Department of Social Services.

He was processed at the Public Safety Building, arraigned in CAP Court and later released.
