OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — First responders are on the scene of a serious two-car crash in Destin Friday evening.

Destin Fire Rescue reported the crash as a vehicle rollover. It looks like a vehicle caught fire. Multiple people were taken to the Fort Walton Beach Emergency Department as “trauma alert patients.” One person flew to Sacred Heart Pensacola.

All westbound lanes are currently closed, according to OCSO.

No further information is available. This is an evolving story.

Destin High School Principal Dr. Dianne Kelley made a statement after the accident:

“I would like to share with you a development regarding the car accident in Destin last night that sent one of our students to the hospital,” said Kelley. “I personally visited the student and his father in the hospital last night and promised to eat his favorite foods. We are waiting for him to recover from surgery. The accident, which involved multiple cars, also resulted in students in the South Walton area being hospitalized. “I was told that these students were receiving treatment at hospitals in the Gulf Coast area.” “This news negatively impacted our school community, especially students and staff, as false rumors spread quickly on the Internet,” he added. “Our shark advisory team will be on campus on Monday to assist any students or staff who need extra support. I will personally coordinate support for the student’s families as needed. I ask that you keep our sharks and the Seahawk in your thoughts, as well as the families affected, during this difficult time and community in your prayers.
