Newark Pharmacy Burglary Suspect Arrested, Others at large

Newark, DDelaware State Police arrested Janine McAlonan, 39, of Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania, in connection with a theft at a Newark-area pharmacy. Two accomplices, 42-year-old Christopher Welch and another unidentified man, remain at large.

Troopers responded to a report of a theft at Saveway Compounding Pharmacy on Albe Drive around 3 a.m. on Oct. 26. Two suspects broke into the pharmacy, stole a safe containing cash and several thousand dollars worth of controlled substances, and placed it in a dark-colored SUV provided by an unidentified driver who fled the scene.

Investigations conducted in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies identified Welch and McAlonan as suspects in this and similar incidents in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. An arrest warrant has been issued for theft and related charges, but the identity of the third suspect has not yet been released.

McAlonan surrendered to police at Troop 1 on Monday, faced multiple felony charges including burglary and theft, and was released on $11,000 unsecured bail after a hearing. Welch is still wanted.
