He was subjected to a serious threat: Ex-RAW officer accused of ‘plotting to kill’ Pannun

Vikas Yadav, a former officer of India’s spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), was accused by the US in a case. Alleged plot to kill Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh PannunHe told a court in Delhi on Saturday that he was facing serious threats to his life from nefarious elements.

Citing the threat, Yadav sought immunity from physical appearance in connection with the extortion and kidnapping case in which he was an accused and the court approved his request. Yadav was arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell in December 2023 in connection with the case and was released on bail earlier this year.

Represented by lawyers RK Handoo and Aditya Chaudhary, Yadav argued that “false and frivolous allegations” were made against him and that his personal information was made widely public, exposing him to “serious threats”.

In the application, it was stated that “Information such as the applicant’s residence, CV and photographs were published all over the world, and this situation exposed the applicant to a serious life threat from treacherous elements.”

The indictment also stated that he was relentlessly pursued by “hostile elements” who were constantly monitoring him in order to track him down in all possible places, leaving him with no choice but to seek safety in seclusion.

“The threat to the applicant’s life is clear, present, serious, imminent and the potential and physical appearance of the applicant before the court is likely to provide an opportunity to destroy the applicant,” Yadav’s plea said. The statement was included.

According to the application, the threat to his life is serious and imminent and his physical appearance before the court could constitute an opportunity for assassination.

Yadav also opposed appearing via video conferencing, stating that his location could be tracked using technology.

The court granted him immunity from physical appearance and decided to hold the hearing of the case on February 3, 2025.

in October, USA blamed Yadavaccused him of being a co-conspirator in the Pannun assassination plot, for which another Indian national, Nikhil Gupta, had already been accused.

The indictment alleged that Yadav and Gupta hired someone to carry out the assassination for US$100,000, but learned that the person they agreed with was actually an FBI informant.

Yadav denied these allegations and said that he was made a scapegoat.
