“Why Are These Fish in Singapore So Big!”: Woman Shocked to Find Arapaimas in Dempsey Hill Pond

Here’s something that could happen Attracts the attention of fishing enthusiasts.

A Xiaohongshu user was shocked when he recently came across rare giant arapaima in a public pond in Singapore.

“Why are these fish in Singapore so big! This is so ugly! Why are there giants in shopping malls!” he wrote.

A quick search shows arapaima can be found at Dempsey Hill Pond, not a mall, and they have been living there for more than a decade.

For those who don’t know, arapaima is considered the world’s largest freshwater fish and can reach up to three meters in length.

The woman continued: “I always thought these fish could only be found in aquariums. They can get very close (to us)! There is no protection. This is so scary!”

He also stated that the arapaima probably belonged to the owner of the pond and wondered “whether this is something that makes rich people happy.”

Apparently he was so afraid of fish that his “hands were shaking” while filming the video.

The post caught the attention of netizens, with many saying they never knew about the existence of the pond and now they would take a trip down to see the fish.

Others agreed with him about how “scary” the arapaima looked; some said they could “jump over the bars of the pond.”

Really?

For those looking for a ‘safer’ option, perhaps a better option would be to visit River Wonders in Mandai.
