Champaign police arrest woman after fatal stabbing

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign Police Department is investigating the death of a 71-year-old man following a report of a domestic disturbance.

CPD responded to the 2000 Block of Cynthia Drive on Saturday, November 16, just after 5 p.m.

At the scene, they found a 71-year-old Champaign man at his home. The man was unresponsive and had a potentially life-threatening stab wound, according to CPD. Officers and Champaign Fire crews administered first aid to him, but the man was later pronounced dead at the scene.

CPD said investigation results showed the man was involved in a domestic fight with 67-year-old Dewandee Carter of Champaign and the woman stabbed him in the chest.

Carter was arrested while the charges were pending, according to CPD. Police teams remained at the scene for hours to investigate the incident. This includes processing evidence from the home and canvassing the area for witnesses and video footage that could assist the investigation.
