Australian radio presenter arrested over sexual abuse allegations

Veteran Australian broadcaster and former Wallabies coach Alan Jones has been arrested following an investigation into a series of sexual misconduct allegations, local media reports.

New South Wales Police said detectives from the Child Exploitation Squad detained an 83-year-old man at a flat in Sydney’s Circular Quay in the early hours of Monday morning before searching the property.

The statement stated that a strike force was established in March to investigate numerous incidents of inappropriate assault and sexual contact that occurred between 2001 and 2019.

Mr Jones is one of Australia’s most prominent media figures and has previously denied allegations of harassment, which were first published by The Sydney Morning Herald in 2023.
