Yellowstone star says fans shouldn’t feel ‘cheated’ by John Dutton’s death

Episode 9 yellowstone Season 5 delivered the news many fans feared: John Dutton is now dead. But instead of complaining, star Luke Grimes thinks you shouldn’t feel “cheated”.

We’ve known this for a while Kevin Costner wouldn’t come back Dutton family farm. Since you distanced yourself from him Taylor Sheridan’s show It seemed inevitable that John would leave for his own Western project, Horizon.

But that doesn’t mean fans expect him to die. In the back of many of our minds we were hoping for some sort of surprise cameo; especially considering how many shots of Dutton there are. Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 2 trailer.

However, according to Luke Grimes (who plays Kayce Dutton in the series), fans are lucky John lived this long. “I think they feel kind of cheated. “And to that I would say, we were all lucky to have Kevin on the show for so long.” explained to People Magazine.

“It was always the plan for him to leave so that the story could really accelerate, and that was the story. You lose the head of the family. Can kids do this on their own?”

Grimes added: “I think he was originally supposed to die a lot sooner. So in a way, they got a lot more from John Dutton than they would have originally gotten. I’ll keep this in mind.

It’s no surprise that Dutton’s death sparked outrage, but It could have been a perfect debut. For Costner and his character.

As we learned in Episode 9, Dutton’s death was a staged murder disguised as a suicide. It’s all thanks to Jamie’s girlfriend, Sarah Atwood, who pulls off a coup after he light-heartedly asks. This works doubly well for him; if Jamie wins the ongoing battle, he gains more control over Jamie.

We don’t actually see Costner die on screen, which is disappointing but expected. Some fans wanted him to “come out like Gladiator”, but given the circumstances we’d probably never achieve that.

In our own words, “If he had met his end this way, there would have been fewer complaints. Let’s face it, you’re not angry that he’s dead: you’re angry that you can’t reach him To see he dies. And that, my cowboy-loving comrades, was not Taylor Sheridan’s choice.”

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 11 will air on November 24 on Paramount Network.
