Arrests and equipment seized after unlicensed music event in Bristol

Musical equipment was seized and two people were arrested during police intervention at an unlicensed music event in Bristol at the weekend.

Four police officers were also attacked and a police vehicle damaged at the event on Willway Street, Bedminster.

We received our first report at 10.19pm on Saturday, November 16, and police officers arrived on scene in less than 20 minutes; An estimated crowd of 200 to 250 people had gathered.

By midnight most people had left safely and the sound system was turned off. However, a small group stayed until 4 am.

A 28-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker. The woman was later released on police bail, while the boy was also released under investigation.

Neighborhood Superintendent Keith Smith said: “We recognize the significant impact these events can have on people living in the surrounding area and have responded quickly and with significant resources to minimize this.

“Some of the behavior faced by officers was completely unacceptable. Officers were punched, spat at, objects were thrown at them and one was grabbed by the hair, causing bruising. Welfare support is available for them.

“Despite the aggression they encountered, officers responded in an extremely professional manner and managed to limit the impact on the local community.”
