Shots fired at Durham police | Teen shot in Durham police shooting now faces multiple charges

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) — Durham police investigators charge 16-year-old boy via juvenile petition He allegedly raised a gun To an officer on Sunday morning.

The charges include assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer; possession of a handgun by a minor; and resisting, delaying, or obstructing a public officer.

The identity of the young man was not disclosed.

It happened just after midnight. Durham Police Department officers responded to a 911 call about a “car club” race in the 4700 block of Hope Valley Road.

According to authorities, a police officer arrived at the scene to remove people, but objects were thrown at him and his vehicle. The officer then got out of his car to confront the 16-year-old and a brief foot pursuit ensued.

The suspect then pulled out the gun and refused to let go despite telling him to do so repeatedly. When they raised the gun, the officer shot them.

Investigators said he was shot twice. The young man got into a vehicle with others and fled, but was later caught and taken to the hospital.

The officer involved was Corporal R. McQueen. He has been with DPD since 2006 and was assigned to the Uniform Patrol Bureau.

Police said the man was wearing a body-worn camera that was activated during the foot chase and shooting.
