Grady County traffic stop leads to arrest in months-long drug investigation

CAIRO, GA. (WALB) – A traffic stop in Grady County led to the arrest of the suspect by the Grady County Sheriff’s Office amid a months-long drug investigation.

A Grady County Drug Agent conducted a traffic stop at Gator’s Store at the intersection of Highway 111 North and 93 North on Monday, November 11.

The driver was identified as 36-year-old Frederic Dewayne Donald, who the manager knew had a suspended license, according to the statement.

A search led to the discovery of illegal prescription pills in Donald’s pocket.

A further search led to the discovery of the following narcotics:

  • Large amount of methamphetamine
  • More prescription drugs
  • Alpha PVP (a designer drug commonly known as “Flakka”)
  • Another unknown substance
  • Plastic bags for packaging narcotics for sale
  • Three digital scales

An inventory of illegal items showed:

  • 491 grams of Methamphetamine, approximately 500 doses, weighing just over a pound and having a street value of approximately $3000.00.
  • alprazolam pills
  • Oxycodone Pills
  • Flakka (alpha PVP)
  • Unknown substance to be tested by crime laboratory

This traffic stop marked the end of the GSCO Office Drug Unit’s months-long investigation into drug activity and Donald.

The following accusations were made against him:

  • Suspended license
  • methamphetamine trafficking
  • Two counts of possession of a controlled substance
  • Possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute

At the time of his arrest, Donald was out on bail on another drug-related case starting in December 2023 and was also under federal supervision, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Captain Jake Bush of the Drug Unit states that he expects this case to be investigated at the Federal level because the Federal system is often a better option for longer sentences,” the statement said. “Federal convictions also do not allow for parole, and sentences are generally handed down 90 percent of the time.”

Anyone with information about illegal drug activity is asked to call the Grady County Sheriff’s Office at (229) 377-5200 and request to speak with a drug investigator.
