Mary Hughes, woman accused of Decatur murders, receives mental health evaluation

DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) – A woman facing two murder charges He underwent a mental evaluation to determine whether he was fit to stand trial, according to court documents.

Mary Hughes is currently in the Morgan County Jail for separate murders that occurred in August. He is accused of attacking and killing an elderly woman with a hammer, as well as killing a man who was found dead in the house.

New details have emerged about a woman accused of attacking an elderly woman in Decatur.

Hughes’ attorney requested the evaluation. He claims to have been hospitalized for mental health issues several times in the past, hearing voices and experiencing hallucinations.

The state Department of Mental Health will conduct the evaluation.
