Guilty plea in Sergeant’s death at Batavia casino. Sanfratello, penalty set

BATAVIA, NY – Suspects in the death of Genesee County Sheriff Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello, 54, pleaded guilty Monday.

Michael Elmore pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter and obstruction of governmental administration. Sentencing is at 9.30 on the morning of December 17th. He faces up to 20 years in prison plus five years of post-release supervision.

Lyndsey Jean Wilcox pleaded guilty to second-degree assault. His sentencing is at 10 a.m. on January 21.

Batavia Police said on March 10, 2024, the sergeant escorted Michael Elmore, 33, and Lyndsey Jean Wilcox, 39, out of the Batavia Downs casino for causing trouble. Officers Elmore I came back with a metal chain and used it to defeat Sgt. Sanfratello is in his head. Officers also say Wilcox shot Sgt. While Sanfratello arrested him. The 32-year veteran of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office became unresponsive and died at the scene.

Elmore is charged with aggravated assault and aggravated manslaughter. Wilcox is charged with assault and burglary.
