Pine Ridge man sentenced to prison for assault says he’s sorry and ‘better to move forward’

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – Jaden Poor Bear, 31, of Pine Ridge, was sentenced to 40 months in federal prison Monday afternoon.

A 20-month prison sentence is expected for assault resulting in serious bodily injury, stemming from an incident in March 2023 in which Poor Bear stabbed his cousin.

He will be sentenced to 20 months in prison for aiding and abetting the attack in January this year, which resulted in serious bodily injury in which another man was beaten with a baseball bat and suffered a skull fracture and brain haemorrhage.

Poor Bear told the judge that he apologized for his part in both situations that led to his arrest and that it would be better to move forward.

Before he was sentenced, the judge told Poor Bear that he hoped he could make himself better.
