Adults get second chance at high school diploma

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – A program is giving adults a second chance to finish what they started. Texasworks is a free initiative that helps adults who want to earn their high school diploma.

For many adults, obstacles in life have forced them to postpone their education. Now Texasworks is giving people ages 18 to 50 a second chance to earn their degrees in a flexible and supportive environment.

Texasworks has been a game changer for students like Maria Hernandez, who said she decided to take a risk after working for years.

“I stopped by for information and liked what I heard about the program and decided to sign up,” said Hernandez.

He (Hernandez) says he did this not only for himself but also to set an example for his daughter.

“It’s never too late to start. Your dreams can come true and you can achieve success with hard work and dedication.“

The program continues where the student left off; Therefore, if a person has not completed a semester or school year, classes will fill this educational gap.

According to Texasworks Campus Director Veronica Khan, students have the option of earning medical assistant certification in addition to their diploma.

Khan adds that he has seen firsthand how the program has changed the lives of many students.

“It gives them hope that they can finish something and go on to college if they want to,” he said. This medical certification gives them the chance to open doors for themselves and their families to motivate them to continue their education.”

Programs like Texasworks remind you that it’s never too late to finish what you start.

The program is free for adults aged 18-50 and provides flexible and personalized support.
