WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KCAL/KCBS) – A social media influencer is facing murder charges following a crash that killed an 83-year-old California woman. However, the suspect is reportedly in a coma following a separate accident that left him in a critical condition.

Greg Morris says his mother, Esther Abouab, 83, is a talented artist. She loved to sing, dance, and have dinner with her family, who lived two miles apart.

Abouab and her husband of 58 years were heading grocery shopping just after 4 p.m. on Oct. 10 when their SUV collided with another SUV on a street corner in West Hollywood, reportedly sending the Abouabs’ SUV flying into a garage door.

Abouab’s family said emergency crews had to use the Jaws of Life to pull her and her 82-year-old husband from the rubble. He did not survive.

The driver of the other SUV, 33-year-old Garrett Bruno, was treated and released. The social media influencer was later charged with murder and reckless driving in connection with the crash.

The Daily Mail reports that Bruno had a scooter accident on October 25 that left him in a coma.

Morris says Bruno showed no remorse for what happened, and after he was admitted to hospital, Bruno once again took things from them by delaying answering or paying for his actions. He adds that his mother’s murder killed the entire family.

If convicted, Bruno could face 15 years to life in prison.
