Two convicted of murder over man found in Breaston river

Two men have been found guilty of the murder of a man whose throat was found dead in a stream with two knives.

The body of Owen Fairclough, 21, was found near Risley Lane in Breaston, Derbyshire, on 23 June 2023.

David Oswald, 31, of Granville Square, Birmingham, and another man, referred to as Man A, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were found guilty of murder and possession of an offensive weapon at Derby Crown Court on Tuesday.

The jury is yet to decide on a third man, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The defendant, known as Man B, denies the murder of Mr Fairclough.

Jack Towell, 22, of Castle Avenue, Nottingham, Pleaded guilty to murder and possession of an offensive weapon during the trial.

The jury had previously heard that Mr Fairclough arrived in Breaston on June 21, 2023, and was met by Towell, who lured him to a “secluded spot” where Oswald and Man A were “waiting”.

His body was found in a stream two days later by a group of youths with fatal injuries.

Oswald, Towell and Man A will be sentenced at the end of the trial.
