Man arrested for robbery with knife at Windsor restaurant

Windsor police arrested a man following a knifepoint robbery at an east end restaurant Monday.

Police responded to a restaurant in the 6000 block of Tecumseh Road East around 3:30 p.m. for a report of a man threatening people with a knife.

“Officers learned that the suspect entered the business, locked the door behind him, and took a knife from the kitchen,” police said in a statement. he said.

“The suspect then cornered people inside the restaurant and threatened to stab them with multiple knives. He also removed money from the cash register and tip box.”

Police said officers negotiated the man’s surrender without incident and no physical injuries were reported.

Sofos, an east end gyro shop, described the incident in a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page and said the man threatened staff.

“Stay safe y’all, this world has really gone crazy,” the post read.

A 61-year-old man was arrested and charged with three counts each of assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, menacing, as well as violation of probation and two counts each of robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Anyone in the area is asked to check vehicle or security camera footage at the time of the incident and contact the Major Crimes Unit or Crime Stoppers.
