Shreveport Police searching for 20-year-old man accused of raping elderly woman

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Detectives with the Shreveport Police Department Sex Crimes Unit have obtained an arrest warrant for 20-year-old Louis James Bates in connection with an incident involving the rape of a 68-year-old woman in February 2024.

Bates faces one count of first-degree rape.

On September 3, investigators identified Bates as a suspect through a match to evidence collected during the victim’s Physical Evidence Recovery Kit.

Bates has a prior history of sexual offenses, further justifying the issuance of an arrest warrant. If convicted, he could face life imprisonment.
