Mississippi man charged with fatal Prospect Heights motel stabbing

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, Illinois — A Mississippi man is facing a home invasion that resulted in a personal injury charge. A fatal motel stabbing in the northwest suburb of Prospect Heights.

Police charged 23-year-old Remington Carroll after officers responded to an early morning 911 battery call in the 500 block of N. Milwaukee Avenue on Sunday, Nov. 17. Arriving officers found a man with stab wounds. Despite the intervention of the police teams who arrived at the scene, it was determined that the unidentified person died at the scene.

According to police, the fatal stabbing was in self-defense, the result of a verbal argument that turned physical.

Police added that Caroll and his friends were staying at a Motel 6 when a man identified only as Arroyo asked them to be quiet in the hallway. Police said Carroll was armed with a beer bottle, leading Arroyo to believe he was about to be attacked.

Arroyo displayed his pocket wife and retreated to his room, closing the door, according to police. However, Carroll and his friends kicked in Arroyo’s door and demanded he come out.

Arroyo complied, allowing Carroll and his friends to enter. That’s when Arroyo stabbed him in the stomach and Carroll stabbed him in the hand, police said.

Police have not released Caroll’s booking photo.
