Immigration denies link to alleged attack on foreigner at KLIA

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 — The Immigration Department said today that none of its officers were involved in the alleged attack on a foreigner who was denied entry to KLIA.

Reports based on videos of the alleged attack included false claims that Immigration officers were involved in the incident at Terminal 1 of the airport.

“All foreign travelers must meet Malaysia’s entry requirements before being granted immigration permission. Director General of Immigration Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said in a statement that passengers who did not comply with these rules were sent a Non-Landing (NTL) notice.

“Under Article 24 of the Immigration Act, foreign passengers who receive NTL notices are handed over to the relevant airlines, which are responsible for returning them to the final port of embarkation.”

He also said that NTL passengers are put in a designated waiting lounge (HL) with all basic amenities and the airlines are responsible for providing three meals a day while awaiting repatriation.

This morning, Malaysiakini news portal published videos and reports claiming that a foreigner was attacked at KLIA after being issued YTL.
